Malaysia-China Summit 2024 to Unlock RM2 billion of High Value Trade and Investment
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – 8 March 2024: Malaysia-China Summit 2024 (MCS 2024), which is one of the highest ever profiled events focussing on Malaysian and China’s diplomatic, trade and investment relations, will be organised from 17 – 19 December 2024 at Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Center (MITEC).
Organised by Qube Integrated Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (QUBE) in association with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), MCS 2024 is held to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of bilateral ties between Malaysia and The People’s Republic of China this year.
A total of 10,000 trade visitors and at least 500 exhibitors China, Malaysia and ASEAN countries are expected to be involved in the three-day expo and conference. According to Mr. Richard Teo, the Executive Chairman of QUBE, the summit which will have business matching programmes is projected to generate RM2 billion in potential trade and investment opportunities.
He noted in his speech that MCS 2024 is positioned as a premier platform for businesses from both nations to converge, explore potential partnerships, and capitalise on emerging opportunities. According to Mr. Richard Teo, MCS 2024 will also be attracting expert thought leaders and industry titans as its speakers to inspire and empower attendees to supercharge their businesses.
MCS 2024 will be the finale event of a series of more than 50 programmes that are being organised to mark the anniversary. MATRADE was appointed by Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI) as the implementing agency for the Economic Pillar of the 50th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Malaysia and China, which includes MCS 2024.
During the soft launch, YBhg. Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz, CEO of MATRADE emphasised that China’s long-standing position as Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 15 consecutive years, holding 17.1% of Malaysia’s total trade as of 2023. He pointed out that this celebratory event serves as testament to Malaysia’s steadfast commitment in bolstering trade relations with China in the pursuit of shared economic growth between the counties as well as ASEAN.
“We have strategically pivoted the programme to foster inter-regional collaboration between Malaysia, China and other ASEAN countries. This accentuates Malaysia’s prominence as a key trade and investment hub in the region,” he said. He further underlined the importance of including SMEs in this endeavour.
The content of the programme was also aligned to the aspirations of the National Investment Aspiration (NIA) and New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030 goals, such as embracing future technologies and promoting sustainable growth.
The other strategic partners for the programme included the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Malaysia (NCCIM) and the Malaysia-China Business Council (MCBC).
The Summit, will revolve around five key pillars – Future Tech, Future Knowledge and Experience, Future Mobility and Connectivity, Future Opportunity as well as Future Growth – will underscore sustainable growth, investment, collaboration, job creation, technology transfer, and enhanced global competitiveness.
