MALAYSIA-CHINA SUMMIT 2024: CHARTING PROSPERITY BEYOND 50 WITH STRONG CHINESE BUSINESS PARTICIPATION

Beijing, (27 March 2024) – The Malaysia-China Summit 2024 (MCS 2024), scheduled for 17th to 19th December 2024 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre in Kuala Lumpur, has garnered significant interest among Chinese businesses, indicating a substantial presence from China alongside other delegations from Malaysia and ASEAN countries.

This engagement is central for the summit which will host the largest trade and investment exposition marking the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China bilateral ties, together with a leadership conference.

MCS 2024 is organised by leading events and exhibitions organiser Qube Integrated Malaysia Sdn. Bhd in association with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE). It is the culmination of a series of programmes celebrating the milestone anniversary under the economic pillar of the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) Malaysia.

Following a successful networking session in Beijing on 27th March 2024, interest among large corporations and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in China has surged, indicating a robust intention to participate.

Qube Integrated Malaysia Executive Chairman Mr. Richard Teo, who is also MCS 2024 Organising Chairman, said: “We have received many strong interest and enquiries to participate in MCS 2024. The response is very encouraging and gaining momentum.”

Themed “Prosperity Beyond 50”, MCS 2024 aims to foster growth and sustainability through its five thematic pillars: Future Tech, Future Knowledge and Experience, Future Mobility and Connectivity, Future Opportunity and Future Growth. These cover a broad spectrum ranging from technology, professional services, economic zones to manufacturing sectors, reflecting the depth of bilateral cooperation opportunities.

MCS 2024 targets 10,000 trade visitors and at least 500 exhibitors from China, Malaysia and ASEAN countries.

In his keynote address, Ambassador of Malaysia to the People’s Republic of China His Excellency Dato’ Norman Muhamad highlighted the significant momentum building towards MCS 2024, saying:

“This summit is not just an event; it shines a light for the next 50 years of prosperity between Malaysia and China. The enthusiastic participation of Chinese businesses reflects the deep mutual interest in fostering a future where our nations thrive together.”

“The doors are wide open for Chinese industries to engage deeply with Malaysian counterparts. The priority sectors of our economy are ripe with opportunity, and through mutual collaboration, we can achieve even more remarkable growth.”

The networking session speakers included MCS 2024 Commissioner-General Dato’ Dr. Tan Yew Chong and officials from MITI Malaysia, MATRADE, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and Air Asia.

Echoing His Excellency’s sentiment, Trade Commissioner of MATRADE Beijing, Mr. Niqman Rafaee M. Sahar, emphasised the significance of bilateral trade between Malaysia and China.

“Testament to our robust and growing partnership, China has remained Malaysia’s largest trading partner for the past 15 consecutive years, representing 17.1 percent of Malaysia’s total trade with the world,” he noted, adding that as of February 2024, total trade volume between the two nations has reached an impressive USD 15.52 billion.

Mr. Niqman Rafaee also shed light on how the Malaysia-China Summit 2024 serves as a pivotal platform for industry players from both nations. “Apart from traditional sectors and manufacturing goods such as Electrical & Electronics (E&E), Chemicals, LNG, and others, there is a vast horizon to explore in areas of connectivity, future growth sectors, renewable, green and sustainable initiatives, and ICT and digital-related services,” he elaborated.

The summit’s strategic partners are the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau, the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia and the Malaysia-China Business Council. The Malaysian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China (MAYCHAM) has joined as the latest partner.
